some crazy powers and dancing

i initially had planned to do a nice write up on the following 2 movies i watched yesterday on channel 5, but some stupid and idiotic thing jus happened to me so i'm damn pissed now. Pointless to tell u what its abt, of course its about the army. What can i say? army rules.

I was expecting a little more from The Medallion but it turned out to be a really cheesy and follows a typical Jacky Chan storyline. Something is stolen, Jacky is a good guy and he gets a real useless partner on the case, Jacky almost dies, Useless Partner(or some other good dude he was with) saves him, he ends up saving the day!(note Rush Hour's Chris Tucker)

Claire Forlani as Interpol Detective, Nicole James.

One really funny part about this movie is the way they arrange for the cast to appear on the role. We know that Jacky Chan and Claire Forlani was suppose to be a couple from the start when they met each other(note ang mo & asian), but i was real shocked to find out who Jacky's Partner(Lee Evans).

So as Jacky knocks on the door of Lee Evan's house, who would come to the doorstep but...

Ms Marie France Bodyline, Christy Chung!

errrrrrr ok.... So apparently both couples and so coincidentally a mixture of Asian & Ang Mos. I was initally expecting Christy Chung to play either some kin of Jacky or maybe part of the HK Triads. But it was humourous to watch the shootout scene in Christy's house with her handling the shotguns and revolvers. And with Jacky Chan's reaction to Lee Evans about his wife "Your wife.... WOO! **with a thumbsup sign and that typical jacky after-gun-fight-tired face". That was a really classic Jacky Chan expression.

Jacky and his useless partner, Lee Evans as Interpol Detective, Arthur Watson.

Also caught coyote ugly at 10pm...i suppose many have watched this show before, whatsmore i'm also very tired now(slept late last night)... shall leave you with some pics. hahaha.

Piper Perabo as Violet Sanford

every movie needs its fair share of the struggles between the parents and their children. Here's John Goodman as Bill Stanford.

LeAnn Rimes the master as herself with Piper Perabo in the final scene.

Singapore's Unknown

anyone here remembers this really old show called "Hey Singapore!" Initially hosted by some unknown dudes and then lisa ang, it was really a damn good documentive series featuring singapore's undiscovered areas and history.

i really hope they bring that series back, but since they are having so much success with get rea!, i dont think they even think abt "hey singapore!".

notice the ! in the titles. maybe that is the winning formula. right?!

Platonic Relationships

the past week haven't been the most interesting one... infact i would say one of the useless week i have ever lead.

With the exception of Saturday's Dinner at Chijmes(Hog's Breath Cafe) which was quite a pleaser and meeting up with shifa for some branch this morning, the other programs were totally trashed.

I topped up $10 into my transitlink card on Saturday Morning, and it was finished by Sunday afternoon. transport is indeed expensive.

anyway i was looking thru the Urbanwire Blog when i noticed an entry that i wrote a year back:

Friends

A few months back I was casually chatting with a classmate on MSN Messenger when I was shocked to find out that she only regarded me as a “classmate” and an “acquaintance”, and nowhere close to being a friend.

I was stunned and disappointed. How could she have not regarded me as her friend? This was someone that I had talked to during classes, helped when she needed help, and I did everything that a friend is supposed to do. Just so you you don’t misunderstand, I wasn’t interested in her or harbouring any ulterior motive. This was just like any other friendship. Why would someone find it so hard to develop a platonic friendship?

Haven’t you encountered such situations where you treated someone as a friend, and realised that they never treated you the same way all the while?

I did some research on my own and found out that dictionary.com offered the following 5 definitions for friend:
1. A person whom one knows, likes, and trusts.
2. A person whom one knows; an acquaintance.
3. A person with whom one is allied in a struggle or cause; a comrade.
4. One who supports, sympathizes with, or patronizes a group, cause, or movement: friends of the clean air movement.
5. Friend A member of the Society of Friends; a Quaker.

Obviously the proper definition I was looking for was definitely not in no.5, but a combination of the other 4. I used to think that making friends wasn’t that difficult. Just be sincere, friendly, courteous and never approach someone with a hidden agenda because your body language will give it away.

Pressing on I asked her why she would think that way. “Sometimes when you grow up, you realise that some people are just not meant to be friends. Take precautions when calling people your friend,” she said. The first sentence rings a bell. Henry Adams, a famous US author, autobiographer and historian also once said, “Friends are born, not made.”

So many questions suddenly pop up in my mind. Is it really that difficult to be friends? How would one qualify to be your friend? Is it a matter of time? Do I have know you for like a year before becoming one? Or would be it how well we can get along? Or does it all boil down to plain old feelings? Most importantly, how would I know if I am your friend?

As a person who is absolutely peace loving, I try to be friends with everyone, help out when they need it, or go a little distance just to make their day. After all, who doesn’t want to have many friends?

Perhaps it’s largely due to today’s competitive society, how people backstab each other and the dirty tricks that people will resort to get what they want, that has created this sense of skepticism. It’s a great pity, because many great friendships which could have been forged may have been sacrificed by this gigantic rat race that we are all forced to participate in.

However, I always believe there’s still hope. I, for one, can bear testimony that there are people out there who can be very good friends with you. I have personally formed this group called the “Fantastic Four”, named after a cartoon superhero team. All 4 of us enjoy each other’s company, sorrows and happiness, things that true friends should be doing. I have also recently found new friends in school, which I am very grateful for.

Maybe it’s true, some people are just not meant to be your friends but I’m hoping that saying is proven wrong. I believe in giving everyone a fair chance. You lose a few and meet new ones along your journey. I had a friend who was telling me how sad she felt when her friend left her to go to Australia without informing her. I found this quote especially meaningful for her, and perhaps for all who are reading this now and thinking about all the friends they have lost from primary school till now. Words by the famous author Richard Bach, “Don't be dismayed at good-byes. A farewell is necessary before you can meet again. And meeting again, after moments or lifetimes, is certain for those who are friends.”

loving & hating

My relationship with the army is a love/hate situation.

Today was a good day considering i exercised quite alot and was quite relaxed too. Went for a few rounds at the stadium in the morning and during the evening, clocked 2 rounds around my camp.

i should carry on with the runs tomorrow.

Hating the army brings me back to the downgrading situation. The MO insists on downgrading me when i feel there's no need to. and not to mention there is a real trashy posting(although some might say relax but i rather be in the jungle).

anyway the verdict will come out tomorrow as i pay the MO a final visit.

and it really disgust me when i see ppl splurging their money around(with the classic phrase "as if their parents printed money").

Actually i'm in a very foul mood now, so i deleted some of the stuff i wrote earlier.

time to watch that designer show on channel 5.

Exercise Northstar V

as i was on the train yesterday to clarke quay to meet the guys for some drinks, i sms-ed shifa to say how "exciting" it would be if a thunderflash goes off in the cabin that i am in.

he replied saying that he thought it would be tomorrow(Sunday) and i weighted the take on that guess.

Sunday = Off Day, Business wouldnt much be affected.

anyway it was on to happier things as i reached my station and promptly went for some relaxation.

but as i was on my way home on nightrider bus no.1 which passed toa payoh interchange at 3am, there was quite some commotion in the bus as we saw quite an amount of police personnel surrounding a bus parked at the interchange and had a ladder propped on it. They seem to be fixing stuff to the upper deck.

The couple behind discussed that today was probably going to be D-Day for Northstar V.

So after waking up, i switched on the radio and heard the announcement that mrt services were suspended and all. So shifa hit the jackpot!

but i was surprised at the timing in which the exercise was conducted. for a bomb to go off at 6.33am on a sunday, that wouldn't be too realistic would it?

nevertheless i think the idea of having such an exercise is good. and i applause the fact that our Minister Wong Kan Seng has not ruled out that such a large scale exercise may be conducted during peaks hours on a WEEKday.

I hope the news will run report on how effective the exercise was.

oh yeah my mum was caught off guard by Northstar V and she had to take a cab to work jus now haha.

first post of 2006

wow i realised for the past few entries it seems like i'm always reviewing movies haha.

the 1st 2006 movie i watched on tv was Book Of Shadows: Blair Witch 2 on channel 5.

what can i say...this movie totally SUCKS!

Totally no connection to the 1st movie watsoever, the characters weren't too convincing and the tiny weeny connection i can find in relation to the 1st movie was probably the cast staying at some foundation that the missing ppl were at last time.

the only good thing that's come out of this is prob the change of cinematography style, no more handheld cams and stuff.

overall this show really is in shambles and no one should watch it. 1/10 STARS!!!

ok we shouldn't start off the 2006 entry on a bad note right? haha.

anyway i'm considering either to go to video ezy later to borrow the whole series of the 4400(well actually there's only 5 episodes on dvd cos it was meant to be miniseries on USA Network. but that's good too! that means onli 2 discs to borrow heh. Was considering either lost or 4400 but lost has 7 discs!

4400 has also gotten lots of good reviews abt it..so maybe a trip down to video ezy will do the trick! i realised i have been watching alot of shows nowadays!
